The Los Angeles Dodgers are heading to their second consecutive National League Championship Series after they easily swept the Arizona Diamondbacks in the National League Division Series. The series sweep was due in large part to the pitching staff, and the Game 3 victory was delivered by Yu Darvish.
The Dodgers came into Game 3 with no intentions of stepping off of the gas after dominant performances in Games 1 and 2. According to Matthew Moreno of Dodger Blue, even Darvish flashed some killer instinct when approaching Game 3:
“Before the game I was talking to Doc, and it’s not about my personal like how am I going to pitch,” Darvish said through a translator after Game 3. “I was telling him, ‘Hey, Arizona has no tomorrow. We’re going to finish them off today.’ He said, ‘Exactly, that’s what we’re going to do.’”
That killer instinct to finish off the Diamondbacks was evident as Darvish only allowed one earned run through five innings. Darvish left the game after he faced some control issues against two consecutive batters, but the Dodgers had a secure 3-1 lead with the bullpen taking over.
Los Angeles will play the winner of the Chicago Cubs and Washington Nationals Series in the National League Championship Series.
