Launched in February 2014, Spectrum SportsNet LA has provided baseball fans exclusive coverage of the Los Angeles Dodgers. For the first time at LA Sports Media, Nathaniel Lastrapes, Russell Valenzuela, and I attended Dodgers Blogger Night at the El Segundo, CA studios as the team faced the Arizona Diamondbacks.
At this year’s event, we received a behind-the-scenes look at Access SportsNet: Dodgers. While fans are familiar with anchor John Hartung and analysts Jerry Hairston Jr. and Ned Colletti, the Spectrum SportsNet LA crew exemplified the true definition of teamwork. As the on-air talent previewed the team’s matchup against the Diamondbacks with live reports from Chase Field, the crew was in constant communication to fill the 30-minute slot with relevant graphics and highlights. It was an eye-opening experience to witness the attention to detail required from start to finish and it was another successful night for the crew.

After Access SportsNet: Dodgers, we joined Hartung, Hairston Jr., and Colletti in the conference room to watch the Dodgers-Diamondbacks game. While they were extremely busy preparing for the postgame show, they all took the time to answer our questions and share memorable stories in their careers. As I am personally learning about baseball, it was a joy to watch the game through the perspective of an anchor, player, and executive.
Overall, it was an unforgettable experience at this year’s Dodgers Blogger Night. Hartung, Hairston Jr., and Colletti are three extremely successful individuals in the industry, but they all serve as great examples in how grounded they are. As for the Spectrum SportsNet LA behind-the-scenes crew, there is admiration for how well they work together to provide the best content possible night in and night out for Dodgers fans. It is not surprising to see how successful Spectrum SportsNet LA has been since their launch and they continue to serve as the standard for LA Sports Media.
