The Los Angeles Lakers managed to end the promising 2017-18 NBA season on a high note with a 115-100 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers. Although there is plenty to be excited about after a solid campaign, the front office has likely already shifted gears toward what is expected to be an eventful offseason.

Among their key players set to hit free agency is center Brook Lopez. According to Ryan Ward of ClutchPoints, Lopez will spend some time weighing out his options:

“We will see how it goes. I am just going to try to put myself in the best position possible as a player and do what I can to control what I can and control the variables.”

The Lakers made headlines last offseason when they decided to trade away point guard D’Angelo Russell and center Timofey Mozgov in exchange for Lopez and the rights to the 27th overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft. Needless to say, Los Angeles got plenty of bang for their buck out of the deal. Not only did Los Angeles get the rights to power forward Kyle Kuzma, but they added a key player to their starting lineup in the process as well.

Despite his struggles early on, Lopez eventually became a seamless fit within the Lakers’ offensive scheme thanks to his ability to stretch the floor. He finished the season averaging 13.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks per game while shooting 34.5 percent from deep.

That said, Lopez will likely have plenty of suitors in free agency given the current landscape of today’s big man in the NBA. The Lakers are expected to go big game hunting this offseason which means they may not make any significant moves until their desired targets are officially on the market. However, there has been some optimism that they may be able to bring him back on a reasonable deal depending on what direction the Lakers ultimately choose to go in.
