The Los Angeles Lakers have been a bit up and down during this recent stretch of the 2017-2018 NBA season. After narrowly defeating the Orlando Magic, the Lakers traveled to Denver to face off against the Nuggets. In what turned out to be a close game until the late minutes, the Lakers struggled to generate enough stops and lost to the Nuggets, 125-116.
While the loss certainly stings, it was Jamal Murray who seemed to have bothered Los Angeles more. With the game already in hand for the Nuggets, Murray appeared to say something that riled up both Luke Walton and several Lakers players.
According to Bill Oram of Orange County Register, Walton called out Murray for his actions:
Luke Walton calls out Jamal Murray by name — says this is second time Murray has been “disrespectful” at the end of game. Last time: dribbling around Lonzo. Tonight: trash talk.

Lonzo Ball called Murray’s dribbling around him a punk move, and appears the Denver guard said something rude enough to anger Walton. Trash talk is normal in the NBA, so for a head coach to comment on it is a sign that perhaps something was said completely out of line.
Walton has a history of sticking up for his players and this is another example of that. While this is a great thing to see, the purple and gold have more pressing issues to address such as their lack of depth at the wing spot. It will be interesting to see how Walton remedies this problem as the 2017-2018 NBA season winds down.
