The Los Angeles Lakers, winners of three straight, have looked much better in recent weeks given their newfound energy on both sides of the ball. Brandon Ingram has done well as the team’s nominal point guard while players like Julius Randle and Brook Lopez have continued to produce.

However, the trade deadline is here and the Lakers had several offers on the table for some of their young players. It was reported earlier that Jordan Clarkson and Larry Nance Jr. could be on the move and according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, it appears the two have been sent to the Cleveland Cavaliers for Isaiah Thomas and Channing Frye:

Wojnarowski also reports that Cleveland is sending Los Angeles its own 2018 first-round pick:

This is a great deal for both sides as the two teams accomplished what they wanted to do. The Lakers were able to unload Clarkson’s salary and land a pick while not taking on any long-term money while the Cavaliers got younger and more athletic on both ends.

Thomas and Frye are on expiring deals, but will provide some much-needed spacing to a purple and gold squad mostly devoid of it. However, the more important note is now the Lakers have more flexibility to sign free agents come the offseason.

It is rare when a trade works out for both teams, but on paper this deal looks to be a good one for the Lakers and Cavaliers. With a couple of hours left until the deadline, it will be interesting to see which teams make a last-second move.
